Posted on Facebook in December 2014 at 3.52am: Oh guys, I'm such a nutter and can't sleep despite being very nicely tired!... new baby idea to announce! eeeek...And I need to get it out my head or I think I won't ever sleep and will be useless tomorrow! Soooo -nervous pause- I'm coming to the end of reading 'Les Misérables'... its a story I've known about forever as we sang songs from it in primary school and my brother became a huge fan (huge fan!) of the musical soundtrack...Then they announced the making of the film, you know, the one with all the stars that was out...last year?...anyway, I'm not one to follow hype but around then I happened to find the two volume story as scanky old cancelled library books for 50p each... so thought "whatever, if I don't like it they can go to charity". Well... love it! You know, I read super slowly when I like a book... this one I have savoured more than any other! So, I'm nearly done with the first read, but certainly not done with the book! I was going to go back to the beginning anyway and read it again to follow-up on the questions I have (loads of questions!) then thought, could this be blogged out? Combo of audio and writing? Like a 'Book Study in Public'?
From my experience so far with the Open Committee it's clear that the two-way interaction possible with on-line blogging is really something that excites me! Ach, there are so many angles to explore; the story, the author, where history meets fiction, might even learn some French to appreciate extracts in the original language!, the drama, the philosophy, the rawness of the characters, the symbolism of the characters... It would be different to a MOOC because MOOC's must be planned from the start, and are delivered by certified experts... I'm no 'certified literary expert' unless an 'A' in Eng Lit A-Level counts? so I'd simply be presenting this as a super-inspired 'normal person'...like, there were tonnes of words I've never heard of, and classical references I don't know... but the story makes me want to find these out!
Also, this project could be shaped by other peoples input! So, there you go. Baby idea now in the world! Good night! Hugs for all!
